Specialist Science at Magill School

All students from Reception to Year 6 are provided with a quality science program.

Programming for Specialist Science is aligned to the Australian Curriculum with student learning covering the three strands:

  • Science Understandings: Biological, Chemical, Earth and Space and Physical sciences.
  • Science as a Human Endeavour: Science in our everyday lives, how Science affects decision making in the community, historical events and famous scientists.
  • Science Inquiry Skills: Planning and conducting fair tests, carrying out measurements & observations and communicating results.

Literacy and numeracy content is included in Specialist Science, particularly with reading Science texts, writing summaries of investigations, and graphing results.

National Science Week is celebrated with a 3-6 themed event, with a quiz organised across these year levels and scores tallied for Sports Day houses.

For part of the year a Science club is offered to students on a weekly basis at lunchtime as an opportunity to experience Science in a different format and to build confidence and enjoyment in the learning area.
