Attendance & Absenteeism

Learning success is characterised by consistent attendance and engagement with quality education opportunities. A whole-school approach to attendance and wellbeing supports families to recognise the importance of education and to address barriers to active participation.’~ Rick Persse – Chief Executive DfE

Research recognises the high correlation between attendance and successful literacy and numeracy outcomes. It has been shown that students who attend school regularly achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance.

More information on the importance of children attending school regularly can be found at https://www.education.sa.gov.au/sites/default/files/attendance-strategy-government-preschools-schools.pdf?acsf_files_redirect

Magill School day

A normal school day at Magill School starts with yard supervision from 8.25am.  Children should not be on the school grounds before this time unless they are booked in to OSHC.  Teachers are in classrooms from 8.40am with the school day commencing at 8.45am.

If students do not arrive to their classroom by 8.45am they must enter via the Front Office and sign in electronically.  Younger students may require a parent/caregiver to accompany them.  If this step is missed, you may receive a notification that your child is absent from school.

Absenteeism SMS 0427 016 460

When students will not be attending school due to illness, family reasons, external learning/sports, parents/caregivers are requested to notify the school via our Absenteeism SMS 0427 016 460 by 9am.  Please ensure you include your child’s name, classroom and brief explanation of why they are absent, e.g. illness, family reasons. This information is critical in ensuring all students are accounted for as student safety and well-being is a high priority.

Children who are away unwell for 3 days or more will be required to provide a doctors certificate.

If your child will be absent from school for 3 days or more, parents/caregivers must complete an Exemption Form (Form C) which must be approved by our Principal PRIOR to the leave.
